sunday praise

We spent four hours in the ER last night with our sick little girl. A cold and cough developed into a high fever, listlessness and raspy, irregular breathing and we decided to play it safe and take her in to make sure that she didn't have pneumonia. We almost lost Philip to pneumonia at four months so we are extra-cautious about anything like that.

Praise the Lord, the chest x-rays came back clear and she tested negative for RSV. They sent us home with an antiobiotic for her ear infection. We plan to lay low for a few days and get in lots of rest and snuggling.

I am so grateful for friends and family who help in a time of crisis. My dad and mom and some friends from church came to the hospital and sat with the boys so that Stephen and I could both be in the back with Anwyn. They bought them snacks from the vending machines, played endless games of make-believe and delayed their own suppers until after 10:00. It is humbling to receive help, but oh so sweet as well.

Bright and early this morning, we received word that another little girl in our church was taken to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. Once again, the church family rises to the occasion to offer help and support in every way possible. I love to see the Body of Christ in action!

As I walked up and down our long driveway yesterday during my exercise time, I was overwhelmed with the goodness of God. From the stark January beauty around me to the people, both big and small that He has put into my life, He has poured out His blessings. Even in the tough times, even through the difficult people, even through relationship challenges and moments of spiritual dryness and crisis situations...His hand is at work. At the time that I walked, I didn't know that we would be headed to the hospital in a few hours. But He was there. He was with us. And He was still good. Had the outcome not been such a good one, He would still be good.

This sunny Sunday morning, home alone with my feverish little girl while my guys are at church, I sit in the stillness and I offer praise.
