rejoice

The two littlest ones are down for naps and I take a few minutes to sit down and breathe. It's been an exhausting week. Our trip to the emergency room with Anwyn on Saturday was only the beginning of a scary quest to identify and treat a bacterial infection that racked her little body. We spent all of one day at the pediatrician's office and hospital while they ran tests. The next night, we sat up for hours with her while she trembled and babbled with a high fever. Yesterday afternoon, the powerful 36-hour antibiotic injection that the doctor gave her finally began to take effect and she turned a corner for the better. Actually, we truly believe that if was the effectual, fervent prayers of many saints that are the reason for her recovery. We are grateful for the doctor and the medicine, but ultimately healing comes from God, whatever avenue He chooses to use.

For the clasp of her tiny hands, for the sweet smell of the hair that curls around her ears, for the smile that greeted us this morning and the sound of her happy voice...I rejoice. For the mercy of God, I rejoice.
